School Year Calendar

From June through August we offer a "summer camp" on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 9:30am to 3pm. We utilize Group's Vacation Bible School Curriculum with fun bible-based stories, crafts, songs, games, and activities throughout the day. We balance indoor and outdoor play for the children's enjoyment and water play is ever present at summer camp!

Mid-August marks the beginning of the school year and the first day arrives the same day as Washoe County's start date. We discuss the child's uniqueness and learn about feelings and senses throughout September. At the end of the month is our first field trip- a Fall Walk down Juniper Trail Rd. We count animals and use all our senses to look for signs of Fall as we journey to the giant pond at the end of the road.

October takes us on a field trip to Ferrari Farms for a tour through a real pumpkin patch! We pick pumpkins from the vine, jump in the bounce house, take a hayride though the pumpkin fields, and visit the farm animals. We learn about our bodies and explore movement this month. We have a week-long fall break this month.

November finds us learning about families, relatives, leaves, and giving thanks. We have a feast at the end of the month where children bring items to share and dress up as Pilgrims and Indians.

December is an exciting time celebrating Christ's birth with a party and making ornaments and presents for family. We perform some carols to entertain our parents before the 3 week Winter Break.

January is for snowmen! The themes revolve around friends and school this month so we take a trip to the Discovery Museum to have lunch together and play as friends. We discuss food likes and dislikes and learn about nutrition also this month.

February is for friends AND firefighters! We discuss the similarities and differences among friends. We make Valentine's for each other, enjoy a party and take a trip to the fire station to meet one of our favorite community helpers. The dental hygentist comes to school this month to talk about dental health and how they help us.

March takes us into spring and the Sheriff likes to come visit us this month. We get to explore his car, tool belt, and learn how to stay safe. We also celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Then we learn about the train conductor and engineer and take a trip to Truckee on the train as a family one Saturday.

April finds us planting seeds and learning about the farmer, gardener, grocer, baker, and librarian. We have fun visiting the Library and Grocery store to meet some more community helpers. We have an Easter party to celebrate the risen Christ and hunt for Easter eggs.

May is when we celebrate moms with a special luncheon made by the children, visit the Sierra Safari Zoo, and enjoy an animal picnic on the playground. We lread about and explore the community helpers like zookeeper, boat captain, and doctor.

June marks the end of the school year but before we say goodbye we celebrate the 3 day class graduating with a cap and gown ceremony and a Butterfly Luncheon at the park. Our parents can invite grandparents and friends to celebrate their little caterpillars turning into butterflies and their flight to kindergarten.
